THE STORY: The action of the play is comprised of a series of varied, imaginatively conceived episodes, which blend into a powerful and stirring mosaic. The opening scene is a hiring hall where a union leader (obviously in the pay of the bosses) is trying to convince a committee of workers (who are waiting for their leader, Lefty, to arrive) not to strike. This is followed by a moving confrontation between a discouraged taxi driver, who cannot earn enough to live on, and his angry wife, who wants him to show some backbone and stand up to his employer; a revealing scene between a scheming boss and the young worker who refuses to spy on his fellow employees; a sad/funny episode centering on a young cabbie and his would-be bride, who lack the wherewithal to get married; a disturbing scene involving a senior doctor and the underpaid young intern (a labor activist) whom the doctor has been ordered to discharge; and, finally, a return to the union hall where the workers, learning that Lefty has been gunned down by the powers-that-be, resolve at last to stand up for their rights and to strike-and to stay off their jobs until their grievances are finally heard and acted upon by those who have so cynically exploited and misused them.

In a world of fast-food meals, high-speed Internet and quick solutions, waiting is tough. Sometimes, if we don’t get a quick answer to our problems—wanting a child, a mate, a new job, a house–we feel stuck. Where is God? Has he forgotten us? No, says Marlinda Ireland, God has not forgotten! We may be caught in a “divine delay,” a time of waiting which holds a purpose and is an opportunity to learn enduring lessons. Learn from the biblical stories of men and women who persevered in waiting for God and discover four primary causes of delayed answers to prayer. Then, learn three secrets that help readers mature during a “heavenly holding pattern.” Ireland shows how to value a time of waiting for what is desired, and offers encouragement and confidence in God’s all-knowing love. Step-by-step, through sound biblical principles, she lifts readers out of their frustrations into a renewed passion for the future.

"The church originated in the itinerant ministry of a Civil War veteran named L. T. Nichols, whose controversial preaching led to his being shot and wounded. Originally known as the Christian Brethren, Nichols and his followers relocated from Oregon to the Midwest in 1883 and some years later embarked on an evangelistic ministry that entailed traveling up and down the Mississippi River system on a large steamboat. In 1904, the group moved to its present home of Rochester, New York, from which its missionaries traveled throughout the United States and Canada. They took the name "Megiddo" from a strategically located city in ancient Israel, which to them signified a place where soldiers of God gathered to renew their strength and courage."--BOOK JACKET.
