Cigar boxes. Refrigerator doors. Scrapbooks and sock drawers and top shelves. These are the places we store our treasures–the keepsakes that tell the story of whom and what we’ve loved, how we’ve lived, and what matters most to us. God is a collector, too, whose treasures are tucked securely into the pages of his book: a golden bell here, an olive leaf there, a scarlet thread, a blood-stained cloth, a few grains of barley. Each of these saved artifacts reveals a facet of his heart and tells the story of a Father whose most precious possession is…us. In Treasured, Leigh McLeroy considers tangible reminders of God’s active presence and guides us in discovering evidence in our own lives of his attentive love.

This is the true account of my personal journey to freedom. I truly believe that "freedom" is the most valuable commodity to us as human beings. For many of us, freedom comes with a huge price tag. I was separated from my family as a teenager in order to escape from the communist-governed Vietnam. This escape meant crossing the South China Sea. There were more than 165 people on a small wooden fishing boat; each hoping to survive and reach freedom. Unfortunately, my first attempt failed. I was captured and locked up in jail for eight months. Although my second attempt succeeded, I traveled 14 days at sea with no food and water and was robbed 21 times by sea pirates. Through that appalling journey, women were raped and people were killed. Hope was the only element providing us with the energy to move forward toward that freedom land. I grew up in a wonderful family filled with love and care, just like many of you. I never thought that I would one day face so much turmoil and hardship in my life. Our property was confiscated by the government. My father was thrown in jail for a year and was accused of being a capitalist by the North Vietnamese government. My mother's life was turned upside down dealing with all the tragic events occurring among us. Our family was never the same after South Vietnam was defeated in 1975. I believe that I have earned my freedom through suffering many atrocious experiences, sadness, sorrow, and humiliation throughout many years of my life. Nevertheless, living in the United States of America today, with my total freedom, made it all worth it!

From the bestselling author of Meetings With Remarkable Manuscripts, a captivating account of the last surviving relic of Thomas Becket The assassination of Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral on 29 December 1170 is one of the most famous events in European history. It inspired the largest pilgrim site in medieval Europe and many works of literature from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales to T. S. Eliot's Murder in the Cathedral and Anouilh's Becket. In a brilliant piece of historical detective work, Christopher de Hamel here identifies the only surviving relic from Becket's shrine: the Anglo-Saxon Psalter which he cherished throughout his time as Archbishop of Canterbury, and which he may even have been holding when he was murdered. Beautifully illustrated and published to coincide with the 850th anniversary of the death of Thomas Becket, this is an exciting rediscovery of one of the most evocative artefacts of medieval England.

Arguably the oldest book in the Bible, the book of Job has a surprising amount to say about some of the newest scientific discoveries and controversies. Far from a book that is just about suffering, Job is filled with rich insight into both ancient and modern questions about the formation of the world the difference between animals and humans cosmology dinosaurs and the fossil record how to care for creation and more With careful consideration and exegesis, internationally known astrophysicist and Christian apologist Hugh Ross adds yet another compelling argument to the case for the veracity of the biblical commentary on the history of the universe, Earth, life, and humanity. Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job shows that the Bible is an accurate predictor of scientific discoveries and a trustworthy source of scientific information, and that both the book of Scripture and the book of nature are consistent both internally and externally.

Imagine you're in a museum. You might spot a gargantuan four-poster bed that was a 16th century pub tourist attraction or a threadbare sackcloth robe worn in church by a 17th century adulteress. Yet despite their rarity, we often fail to engage with these extraordinary objects. We simply nod and move on. But it doesn't have to be that way. Through its 26 Treasures project, writers' collective 26 is exploring how to create emotional connections between objects and individuals. In 2010, London's Victoria & Albert museum chose 26 objects from its British Galleries and randomly assigned them to 26 writers. Each person wrote exactly 62 words – 26 in reflection – in response to the object. The results were beautiful, surprising, lyrical, sometimes comical. Andrew Motion wrote about a bust of Homer, a 17th century Chinese porcelain figure reminded a writer of a pub landlord in Inverness, while the wedding suit of James 11 inspired 62 words about 'a suit as full of scratches as a rose-garden'. In 2011 they took the idea to the National Library of Wales, the Ulster Museum and the National Museum of Scotland, where writers were let loose on objects as disparate as a mediaeval illuminated book, a beggar's badge and a 16th century Scottish guillotine. It seems that all writers and readers treasure connections with the past through objects – personal ones and those displayed in museums. There are more than a hundred writers involved in this collection, including many of the best-known literary authors in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The result is an exquisite illustrated book, where the 104 objects and their accompanying sestudes appear side-by-side.
