DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK:

The Upanishads Contain Not Philosophy But Central Principles To Guide Us Through Life. They Are Therefore India'S Most Precious Legacy To Humanity. what Is That, By Knowing Which, All Things Are Known? What Makes My Mind Think, My Eyes See, My Tongue Speak, My Body Live? What Happens When This Body Dies? With Such Questions The Upanishads-The Fount Of India's Loftiest Thought And Faith-Begin. Unlike The Chapters In A Book, Each Of The Upanishads Is Complete In Itself: A Snapshot Of Transcendent Reality. They Are Remarkable And Unique Because While Other Civilizations, Including Vedic India Itself, Were Studying Science And The Natural World, The Upanishads Focus Entirely On The Life Of The Mind. More Than 3000 Years Old, They Are The Earliest Living Records Of What Aldous Huxley Called The Perennial Philosophy: The Conviction, Marked By Personal Experience, That There Is A Spark Of The Divine In Every Creature, And That To Realize This Divinity Is Life'S Highest Goal. Easwaran Includes The Ten Principal Upanishads, Plus The Shvetashvatara, Which He Considers Of Equal Importance, And Four Yoga Upanishads To Represent The Later Tradition.

DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK:

The Upanishads has now been expanded and brought out in two volumes, with much new material published for the first time in book form. The single volume The Upanishads has been discontinued, with all its content included in the two new volumes, each available as an independent book. The Kena Upanishad is concerned with the relation of mind-consciousness to Brahman-consciousness , writes Sri Aurobindo in his commentary on this work. The material world and the physical life exist for us only by virtue of our internal self and our internal life. According as our mental instruments represent to us the external world, according as our vital force in obedience to the mind deals with its impacts and objects, so will be our outward life and existence. Along with Sri Aurobindo's final translation of and commentary on the Kena, this book includes his translations of six other Upanishads as well as several other translations and commentaries, and essays such as 'The Philosophy of the Upanishads'.

DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK:

The four Vedas namely the Rg, Yajur, Sama, and Atharva form the scriptures par excellence of Hinduism. The word Veda means wisdom. The Upanishads are but the concluding parts of the Vedas. The concern of the Upanishads is to find the connection between the human person and the cosmic reality. Discovering that connection constitutes knowledge that is secret. This secret knowledge is supposed to deliver one from mortal existence. According to modern researchers they are roughly 2000 to 3000 years old. The Indian tradition places their count at 108. But the most important of them are just ten. This work carries the eight of them namely the Isha, Kena, Katha, Prashna, Mundaka, Mandukya, Taittariya, and Aitareya. The other two namely the Brihadaranyaka and the Chandogya go into another book titled 'Ten Major Upanishads- Vol 1'

DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK:

This Upanishad is contained in the Rig Veda and forms a part of the Aitareya Aranyaka. With Sanskrit verses and its English rendering, followed by an authentic translation of Sri Shankaracharya’s commentary, this Upanishad distinctly expounds the goal of human life to be the realization of the identity of the individual soul and the Supreme Soul. This it does by the method of adhyaropa and apavada, that is, assumption of names and forms and their negation. Published by Advaita Ashrama, a publication house of Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math, India.
